Filipino Inspired Garlic Fried Rice

Posted on June 11, 2018December 29, 2020 by marymangia20

You ever make a recipe so easy, but so delicious and think, “damn, how’d I go my whole life without eating this?” That’s how I felt about this Filipino Inspired Garlic Fried Rice recipe I managed to cook up. It’s the perfect side dish for when you want something a little more dolled up than plan rice or quinoa, but also something a little less jazzy than full blown fried rice. It’s a fragrant, garlicky rice with fresh sliced green onion that leaves for the perfect, flavorful accompaniment for any Asian inspired dish you wish to create.

I paired it recently with Trader Joe’s Kung Pao Tempura Cauliflower and chopped peanuts, but I’ve also made it with a slow cooker chicken adobo recipe. When I first made this recipe, I wanted something a little different. After a lot of research and a lot of testing, I finally came up with the perfect garlic fried rice recipe. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Ingredients:
  • 4 cups of cooked white rice
  • 3-5 cloves of garlic, minced or sliced
  • 3 stalks of green onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions
  1. Alrighty, this is a rice recipe, so if you haven’t already cooked up your rice, get a pot of salted water boiling. You can also use a rice cooker or instant pot to cook up your rice. Whatever method you have, you just need to get your 4 cups of rice cooked up.
  2. Once you have your cooked rice situation all figured out, set it aside. We’ll get to this later.
  3. Mince your garlic. You can make your garlic in as teensy, tiny cuts as you’d like, or if you like bigger chunks, slice them into slivers. However size you like your garlic pieces, make sure they’re all relatively the same size.
  4. Add your oil to a frying pan on medium heat.
  5. Add garlic to hot oil. Be careful not to splash yourself, and turn heat onto medium-low.
  6. Keep a watchful eye on the garlic. Make sure that it gets tender and a little crispy, but not burnt or hard. I like to “deep fry” the garlic in the oil, by tipping the frying pan slightly to create a puddle that the garlic can fry in.
  7. Once your garlic looks like it’s the color of a Ritz cracker, add in your rice.
  8. Stir fry that rice in with the garlic until it’s heated through and the garlic and oil are completely mixed into the rice. Season your rice with salt and pepper. Add your sliced green onions at this time.
Optional: Add an egg for protein or toasted sesame seeds for more flavor!
  9. Serve immediately with your favorite main course. I served up mine with Trader Joe’s Kung Pao Tempura Cauliflower and chopped peanuts!
